Why do chiropractors adjust infants and babies?

California Superior Court has ruled that coffee must contain a cancer warning as the extremely popular drink contains acrylamide, a known carcinogen and probable neurotoxin.  The semi-good news is that dark roasted coffee contains less acrylamide than light roasted coffee. Studies also point out that caffeine has a long lasting negative effect on brain maturation in young people.

Ultraprocessed foods and drinks make up 61% of American’s food intake (Canada 62%, UK 63%).  Ultraprocessed foods are linked to mood instability, depression and anxiety.  Additives in ultraprocessed foods also trigger inflammation in the body.  People who ate the most ultraprocessed food had 28% faster mental decline compared to those that ate the least.  In addition to the above conditions, eating ultraprocessed food (junk food), is linked to metabolic syndrome, cancer and all cause-mortality as well as being a leading cause of obesity.

Strawberries are the # 1 ranked food in terms of pesticide content.  Analysis has found up to 22 different pesticides on strawberries. The top 6 most contaminated foods by pesticides are strawberries, spinach, peaches, nectarines, cherries and apples. Why do chiropractors check the spines of infants and babies?  Typically when a baby is born, the OBGYN assists the mother’s delivery by holding onto the baby’s head and with some degree of pressure or force pulling the baby out of the birth canal.  This amount of force, especially when the baby’s head is rotated right or left can cause muscle contraction that effects the spinal alignment.  The babies that have the more severe alignment issues are typically the ones that develop croup, colic, latching issues and ear infections. The misaligned vertebra causes nerve dysfunction which can lead to those conditions.  The chiropractic spinal alignment correction on newborns and babies is extremely gentle and could be described as light pressure or tapping which is enough to relax the neck muscles and correct the alignment of the spinal bones.  It should also be said that if the baby was born in what is called traumatic birth delivery (forceps, vacuum extraction), the need for chiropractic care is paramount.  The average patient who is under pregnancy, prenatal chiropractic care in our office, typically brings the newborn baby for a chiropractic check-up 2 weeks after birth. Most chiropractors check and or adjust their own children’s spines on the day they are born.
