The Latest Trend in Natural Health Care

As a practicing chiropractor with over 30 years of experience, it is easy to see the trends that occur in a chiropractor's office.  In the early development of chiropractic (1895-1950 ), chiropractic's main focus was health care, removing spinal nerve interference via adjustments so that the body could properly function and express itself. During this time period, chiropractors cared for lots of really sick people with all sorts of illnesses and conditions. Conditions such as cancer, autoimmune diseases, the flu and even mental health cases!  The next half of the century (with the inclusion of health insurance coverage) saw chiropractic care move towards the musculoskeletal back and neck pain cases. Even though the same chiropractic overall health benefits continued to be present, chiropractors became more focused on bodily aches and pains.  In the last 15 years, it seems that the emphasis (while still pain related) is shifting towards more overall health and wellness. More and more people are using the chiropractor like a gym membership, just for the health of it. The adjustments balance the musculature for greater mobility and flexibility. The adjustments reduce friction on the spinal joints helping to prevent arthritic changes and most importantly the spinal adjustment's effect on nervous system function is profound.  Improved neural function boosts the immune system and enhances overall health. In addition, this healthy trend in chiropractic is extending to pregnancy care and pediatrics.  More and more pregnant women and small children are coming to the chiropractor for the natural drug-free health benefits.  I am enjoying this trend towards overall health!!
