Having trouble sleeping? Read this.

Do you have sleep issues such as tossing and turning?  Statistically, people who toss and turn typically sleep on their stomachs and sides.  The ideal position for proper sleep is on your back or what is called the supine position.  In addition, the bed pillow should be placed under your neck, not your head for a good night’s sleep.  The pillow under the neck also supports a beneficial spinal curve.  Poor sleeping posture is a common cause of aches and pains and can aggravate arthritis.  If you are a habitual side or stomach sleeper, it could take you 4 months or longer to retrain your body to sleep on your back comfortably. The best pillow for sleep comfort as well as head and neck pain is designed to support all parts of your head and neck. If your head and neck are properly supported, this reduces tension in your muscles, ligaments, and tendons, allowing you to have a pain-free and restful night of sleep and wake up pain-free. According to research, if you already suffer from neck pain and headaches, ergonomic latex pillows have been shown to significantly decrease neck pain and discomfort, even in people with arthritic conditions on the neck.  Pillows made from natural latex are unique because they provide support and conforms to the weight of your head, which means you feel like your head is floating on the pillow.  Chiropractors often recommend latex pillows to be the best for neck and back pain. Latex is a great pillow material because it conforms closely to the sleeper’s neck and shoulders to alleviate pressure points, similar to memory foam but more effective. It is also highly durable, so you can expect the lifespan of most latex pillows to last at least three to four years , while memory foam pillows last 2-3 years.  Organic latex pillows can be found online for about $75.00 for the king size pillow which is considerably less than other pillows.  A very reputable company that sells organic latex pillow is Eco Terra.

Speaking of sleep, Chiropractic care can contribute to a better night’s sleep.  It is not a common fact that chiropractors can help with sleep issues.  According to the National Sleep Foundation, nearly one-third of people who have undergone a chiropractic adjustment say they experience an immediate improvement in sleep.  If you have sleep issues, regular chiropractic care eases muscle tension that causes restlessness, relaxes the body, relieves pain and discomfort and stimulates circulation.  The most important effect is that chiropractic spinal adjustments improve function to the central nervous system by stimulating neural impulses from unlocking fixated spinal joints.
