Dangers of Daylight Savings Time

Daylight savings time was originally intended to extend the daylight hours during the summer which would result in energy savings.  Research shows that it does not save money and contributes to ill health.  Statistics show that there is a significant increase in car accidents, workplace injuries and heart attacks days after the time changes in the spring.  This appears to be related to loss of sleep and disruption of the natural sleep cycle – circadian rhythm. On March 19th 2019, the European Union voted to end DST as of 2021.

Why is choosing organic food the most proactive choice you can make to take charge of your health?  Eating organic foods (fresh, boxed, bagged or canned) lowers your risk of pesticides. Scientific research shows that adverse health effects in children occur with exposure to pesticides. Organic foods contain levels of antioxidants and healthy fats that are higher than non-organic grown varieties of food.  Soil depletion, which is typical in conventional farming, leads to crops with less nutrients.  For example, an apple from the year 1950 contained the same amount of iron as eating 26 apples today.  Organic food purchases also reduces the severity of climate change, protects the environment, promotes animal welfare and farmer profitability as well as ensuring your food is not genetically engineered.

A recent to discovery as to why some patients have deadly blood clotting after receiving the Covid-19 vaccine was published in the medical journal Blood.  The study, funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research in England and the British Heart Foundation found that the problem is with platelets sticking together after the vaccine.  The study’s authors stressed that this vaccine induced condition is very rare.

A new study published on October 24th in the Journal of the American Medical Association Open Network found that it is very rare that young children transmit the covid-19 virus to vulnerable adults.  Researchers led by Dr. Timothy Shope, a professor of pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, said that based on their findings, policies for testing and isolating Covid-19 infected children should be aligned with those for similarly risky respiratory illnesses like flu.  Authorities used child-to-adult transmission to justify shutting down schools during height of the pandemic despite indications very early that this was not an issue.
