Covid-19 Natural Immunity and Vaccine Mandates, Pregnancy Information

While browsing through the Saturday morning television channels (my rugby season and fishing have ended, what else to do?), I stopped on the Smerconish show at the perfect time as he was discussing vaccine mandates and covid natural immunity.  I am curious on this subject when it is presented on the news as I am quite sure they will present the topic in an almost certain way.  This time was different.  The question was asked, should prior covid infection count when it comes to vaccine mandates?  As you are aware from my previous writings, there are over 80 studies from around the world that suggest prior covid infection provides as much immunity as the vaccine.   A coronavirus infection survey published in the United Kingdom in October 2021 found that 2 doses of the vaccine provides a similar level of protection compared to a prior natural covid infection.

The CDC, on their website, sites a study that shows fully vaccinated individuals and those that have been previously infected with covid have a low risk of subsequent infection.

Dr. Monica Gandhi, infectious disease specialist, professor of medicine at University of California (San Francisco) discussed the largest covid immunity study conducted in Israel showing how prior covid infection offers a little more protection than the actual vaccine.  Dr. Gandhi also stated that 15 months of accumulated data shows that covid reinfection in previously infected individuals versus vaccinated individuals is equally as common among the two groups.

55 countries from around the world (27 from the E.U. and 28 non-E.U.) give prior covid infected individuals the same rights and protections as fully vaccinated people.  Germany is about to enact a very strong vaccine mandate, preventing un-vaccinated people from living the way vaccinated citizens do, only it will not apply to people who have had a prior covid infection due to their natural immunity.

The question was asked, why are we not handling natural immunity the same way as Europe?  And who has it right?  According to Dr. Gandhi, Europe has the correct approach. “You can’t discount natural immunity when you have the data showing you that you have a generally equal situation, essentially the same protection from severe disease from prior natural infection versus being vaccinated. You can’t discriminate from those who have recovered from the virus.”

Yet, this topic is hardly ever brought up in the mainstream media.  If vaccinated individuals are given a vaccine passport or I.D card that allows them to get into concerts, sporting events and even restaurants, why are the people who have natural covid antibodies from prior covid infection, not given an antibody passport or I.D. card?

Recently published in the English medical journal Lancet, was a report that polled all available epidemiologic and immunologic data concerning covid immunity. Their conclusion was that those with prior covid immunity should count the same as vaccinated individuals when discussing vaccine mandates.

Pregnancy / Prenatal Covid vaccine Information:  My practice has a very strong sub specialty in chiropractic obstetrics.  Our emphasis is on prenatal chiropractic care for optimal health and the ease of the normal aches and discomforts of a pregnancy.  I am often asked about the covid-19 vaccine concerning safety for pregnancy patients.  I recently came across some statistics on adverse reaction events for pregnant women who were given the vaccine.  Preliminary safety results of mRNA COVID shots used in pregnant women, based on data from the V-Safe Registry, were published in The New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) in April 2021.  According to this paper, the miscarriage rate within the first 20 weeks of pregnancy was 12.5%, which is only slightly above the normal average of 10%. On the surface, the risk may be acceptable to some, but once the study was further looked into it was found the authors report a rate of spontaneous miscarriage less than 20 weeks of 12.5% (104 miscarriages out of 827 completed pregnancies). However, this rate includes women who were vaccinated in their third and final trimester where the risk of spontaneous miscarriage is much lower.  If you eliminate the 700 women in the study who were in the third trimester the statistics change to 104 miscarriages per 127 vaccinated which is an 82% miscarriage rate.  The statistics also show that 96 of the 104 miscarriages occurred in the 1st trimester.  In retrospect the study found that it was safe to vaccinate in the third trimester but made no mention of the vaccine’s safety during the first trimester of pregnancy.  The statistics also do not address women who became pregnant after being vaccinated.

Atlantic County, NJ and Covid-19:  Atlantic County has 901 new cases of Covid-19 over the last two week period, up from 809 cases the prior 2 weeks. Our 7 day average cases reported 65 cases per day.  Atlantic County has had 15 deaths in the last two week period.    On 12/01/2021, there were a total of 1,112 people admitted in all of New Jersey’s hospitals for care of Covid-19 infections, up from 856 a week ago.  In the USA, 578 million doses of the vaccine have been given out.  197,838 million people are fully vaccinated, 60% of the population. 49 million people have contracted the Covid-19 virus in the USA.  Atlantic County has had 41,416 total cases of Covid-19.

Vaccine Informed Consent Information:   Informed consent means that the person to be vaccinated has to be informed about all the risks, the risk benefit ratios, the potential dangers and what is known about side effects. For example, informed consent takes place in all drug advertising.  Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System data released 11/19/21 by the CDC showed a total of 913,268 reports of adverse reactions from all age groups following COVID vaccines, including 19,249 deaths. Serious injuries reported in this time period totaled 139,126 between Dec. 14, 2020 and 11/19/2021. New Data for 5 to 11 years olds:  2,093 reported adverse reactions, 22 reported as serious, 1 death.  This week’s data for 12- to 17-year-olds show 23,484 total adverse events, including 1,439 rated as serious and 31 reported deaths among 12- to 17-year-olds.  Severe reactions in all age groups of anaphylaxis include 2,149 people, 3,209 reports of myocarditis and 11,209 reports of blood clotting disorders.  This week’s data for pregnancy /prenatal vaccination shows pregnant women had over 4,362 adverse events reported including 1,376 reports of miscarriage or premature birth.  VAERS is the primary government-funded system for reporting adverse vaccine reactions in the U.S. Reports submitted to VAERS require further investigation before a causal relationship can be confirmed. The Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) database contains information on unverified reports of adverse events following immunization. Reports are accepted from anyone and can be submitted electronically.
