Chiropractor Discusses Blood Pressure Treatments

High blood pressure also called hypertension is such a common health problem that one out of three of you reading this has it. Uncontrolled hypertension is a serious health concern that can cause heart disease and increase your risk of having a stroke. Hypertension is especially dangerĀous because it often has no warning signs or symptoms. Doctors will diagnose you with high blood pressure if your blood pressure reading is anything above 140/80. One of the most common risk factors for high blood pressure is body weight. So if you are over weight, your risk for developing high blood pressure increases. Recent research is now showing that for the most part, high blood pressure is related to your body producing too much insulin. As your insulin levels rise, it causes your blood pressure to increase. Research published in 1998 in the journal Diabetes reported that nearly two-thirds of the test subjects who were insulin resistant also had high blood pressure. For some people, lowering blood pressure can be achieved by implementing five techniques that address high insulin levels. One of the most effective ways to lower insulin levels is with a regular exercise routine. Additionally, it is important to avoid foods that cause insulin levels to rise. If you have high blood pressure, breads, pasta, rice, cereal and potatoes should be limited or avoided all together. Too much fruit can also cause a spike in insulin levels. Reducing stress levels is also an important factor in lowering blood pressure. Prayer, meditation and deep breathing techniques all seem to help. Vitamin D3 supplementation also has an affect on blood pressure, as levels too low can increase risks for heart disease and diabetes. Lastly, making sure that you have an adequate intake of omega 3 fats such as fish oil, krill oil and walnut oil all seem to have affect on blood pressure levels. One last bit of advice. If your blood pressure is very high, it is extremely important to be on a blood pressure lowering medication. Very high blood pressure can lead to stroke with associated brain damage. The long term goal would be to address all the natural ways of lowering blood pressure, by applying the five items just talked about, so that you can eventually get off of the medication.  A combined medical and chiropractic research project conducted by leading cardiologists and chiropractors found that patients with high blood pressure who also had an upper cervical subluxation of the C1-C2 vertebra, were able to lower their blood pressure naturally with chiropractic adjustments of the involved area. Another good reason to see your chiropractor!
