Chiropractic is Amazing

 

Dr. J’s Chiropractor Thought for the Week: This coming year (March 2024), I will be practicing as a chiropractor for 36 years. In those 36 years, I have seen some amazing things happen in my chiropractor’s office. People come into the office in pain and leave without pain. In some cases it’s an over-night success story, in others it’s a gradual process. But the most amazing things that happen in my office on a day to day basis are the things that I don’t actually “see” myself. It’s stuff that happens over time that patients may mention to me in casual conversation. People typically come to me with back and neck pain and they are not expecting their sleep to improve, their digestion to improve, there nervousness to calm down or that they are getting less colds and flu symptoms. Women talk to me about reproductive and or hormonal issues that do not occur since starting care in the chiropractor’s office. I hear about headaches going away, heart palpitations stopping and even hear about how less tired and more energy people have.  This is the amazing stuff. This is what keeps me excited to continue to practice as a chiropractor every day. This is what gets me fired up.  The fact that the chiropractor, with the chiropractic adjustment, can improve health in the human body just by freeing up spinal nerve pressure, as simple as that, is what keeps me going!  My most important goal in my career is teaching my practice members that a major contributor to good health is regular, preventative chiropractic care.  I am often asked, “Doc, when are you going to retire?”  My response is that I retired 15 years ago!  These are my retirement hours.  I can’t reach my goal of teaching people about the health benefits of chiropractic care, If I don’t keep working.  So, I am not going anywhere!

 

Did you ever wish that you could get rid of a cold right away?  Or how about before it started?  I am sure you have.  A healthy immune system is one way to prevent colds and flu.  Many people who take good care of their immune system report that they get far fewer incidents of sickness than those who do not.  If a healthy person with a solid immune response does get sick, they definitely get better much faster than those who do not have that same healthy response.  That being said, there is a way to prevent a cold from manifesting into a full blow illness at the very first sign of a symptom, naturally without drugs and medications.  Nebulizing hydrogen peroxide may one day be the most effective strategy for preventing a germ from taking hold, or cutting your illness time dramatically.  In most cases of respiratory illnesses ( runny noses, sore throats, coughs), nebulizing peroxide can show improvements in the symptomatic condition in a few hours.  The body’s immune cells actually create its own hydrogen peroxide to combat germs and bacteria. The hydrogen peroxide kills the infected cell stopping viral reproduction.  Hydrogen peroxide therapy aids the immune system to perform their natural function more effectively.

 

My family and I have been using hydrogen peroxide therapy since I first learned about it during the covid-19 pandemic.  This was one of the treatments that the Front Line Critical Care doctors organization had listed in their coronavirus treatment protocol.  At the first sign of an illness, we breakout the nebulizer and do a five minute treatment, sometimes an extra one a few hours later and without fail, no illness develops.  For example, just this Friday I was driving around doing errands and I felt my nose start to run and I noticed my throat was getting scratchy.  As soon as I got home, I did a five minute nebulizer treatment.  That evening, I had zero symptoms, woke up the next morning feeling fine and went fishing!  No signs of symptoms what-so-ever.  This is what we do whenever we notice a germ coming on or if we get sick.  It works every time. Imagine how much lost sick time for work and school could be avoided with this therapy. 

 

There is an extremely important caveat to this treatment.  I do not just take peroxide and fill up my nebulizer and start breathing.  This would be very harmful to the lungs.  There is a specific hydrogen peroxide therapy recipe that needs to be used for safety.  First, I acquired the proper ingredients which were be bought on Amazon or the drug store.  The hydrogen peroxide MUST be food grade 3% peroxide.  And since 3% is too much peroxide to use, it must be diluted 30-50 times. The peroxide must be diluted with pure saline water.  The saline prevents the peroxide from harming the lungs.  The exact recipe is 1 ounce of food grade hydrogen peroxide to 16 ounces of sterile saline water.  This will make a big batch that will last all winter long.  If I want a smaller batch, I use ½ ounce of food grade hydrogen peroxide to 8 ounces of sterile saline water.  The next ingredient I need is Lugers 5% iodine solution.  I place one drop of iodine to the mixture of peroxide and saline water and that is it.  The complete recipe.  The next piece of equipment needed is a nebulizer.  These are sold at all drug stores or on Amazon.  The amount of the peroxide solution used for each nebulizer treatment is ONLY 3 cc.  This is a very little amount.  The reservoir on the nebulizer mask should have CC measurement lines so that you can accurately fill the container with the correct specific low dose.  I place the nebulizer mask over my nose and mouth and turn the machine on, breathing normally until the solution is gone.  This will take about 5 minutes or so.  If I am sick, I repeat the treatment 3-4 times per day until the infection is gone.  As I mentioned above, in my experience, if I  act on this at the first sign of a cold, I will not need more than one or two treatments to kill the germs.  I have even purchased a portable battery operated nebulizer for use if I was flying on a long trip, confined to a cabin with coughing or sneezing passengers.  I would actually nebulize in the car on the ride home from the airport (passenger, not driver).

 

A study published in the Journal of South Asian Federation of Obstetrics and Gynecology (2022) found that Nebulization therapy with Hydrogen Peroxide can be a very effective means for controlling COVID-19 spread.  The National Library of Medicine published a paper from the Journal of Evidence Based Complimentary and Alternative Medicine which concluded that “ Hydrogen peroxide is a widely used, highly accessible, and available chemical compound whose efficacy has been demonstrated on several human viruses, including coronavirus and influenza viruses. It is possible that hydrogen peroxide, by diverse routes of administration and mechanisms of action, could exhibit a therapeutic and/or prophylactic effect against SARS-CoV-2.  Given its low cost and medical potential and considering its relative safety if used properly, we suggest that randomized controlled trials should be conducted”.   If you Google this therapy you will find many sources that do not endorse this treatment, sources such as Medical News Today, Web MD and the Asthma Association of America, as well as many newspaper articles that do not recommend this therapy as the doctors interviewed consider it dangerous.  I am not sure why.  Other than that this therapy is extremely low cost and does not involve medication and is not controlled by the pharmaceutical industry.  I have used this treatment myself and for my family for over 2 years with no issues.  I will add that if you are interested in this treatment, please do your own research on this topic and consult your physician for advice.  My only goal in presenting you this information is to show that I personally use an alternative treatment for colds and flu that does not involve medication.  In my opinion, these treatments should be studied further with objective clinical trials to prove effectiveness and safety for everyday use.  The following doctors are given credit for discovering this treatment:  Originally conceptualized, circa 1990, by Charles Farr, MD Subsequently Researched and Prescribed by Frank Shallenberger, MD Current Protocol Created by Thomas Levy, MD, JD
