Children and Germs

Saffron is a popular spice that has a strong, exotic aroma and a bitter taste and is used to color and flavor many Mediterranean and Asian dishes, particularly rice and fish.  Recent health research pints out that saffron may benefit conditions such as depression, memory loss, anxiety and premenstrual syndrome.  Studies show that saffron’s chemical makeup gives the spice anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor properties.  In addition, studies showed that saffron was just as effective as antidepressants in the treatment of mild to moderate depression.

Children and germs.  Children who are not exposed to germs on a regular basis have a different collection of bacteria that naturally live on and inside our body.  These microbiomes as they are called play a major role in how our immune system functions.  Exposure to germs on a regular basis helps to prevent immune related disorders and actually train your immune system to function normally and be more efficient at fighting off colds and viruses.

Eating grapes can help protect your skin from ultraviolet radiation damage from the sun.  The caveat is that you have to eat 60 grapes a day or take grape skin extract powder.  After two weeks in a recently published study, 1/3 of the participants were found to have increased resistance to sunburn.

Eat dinner at least 3 hours before bed for optimal health benefits.  Cellular repair begins about 6 hours after you have eaten your last calories.  If you consume food over a 15 hour time period, say 6am to 9pm, your body only has 3 hours for cellular repair.  If you are able to eat in a 9 hour window, say 9am to 5pm or 10am to 6pm, your body will have 10 hours for cellular repair.

Any potential benefits of the COVID-19 booster fail to outweigh the harms for young people ages 18-29, according to a peer-reviewed study published Monday in The British Medical Journal, Journal of Medical Ethics.

Researchers performed a risk-benefit assessment and ethical analysis and concluded that “booster mandates in young adults are expected to cause a net harm.”

More than 1,000 U.S. universities and colleges mandate the COVID-19 vaccine for residential students and more than 300 mandate the booster.

The authors of the BMJ study concluded universities should not enforce booster vaccine mandates.

The researchers estimated that over a six-month period, 31,207 to 42,836 young adults ages 18-29, previously uninfected with COVID-19, would have to receive a third mRNA vaccine — a booster — in order to prevent a single hospitalization. For every 32 hospitalizations prevented, there would be 593.5 serious adverse events.  The researchers also anticipated that for every hospitalization averted there would be 1,430 to 4,626 cases of adverse events serious enough to stop people from carrying out regular daily activities.

Pregnancy Prenatal Chiropractic Care:  Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a form of diabetes that can develop in pregnant people. It is fairly common and can occur if a person is unable to make enough insulin during pregnancy.  According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), GDM occurs in 2 to 10% of pregnancies in the United States each year.  A person can manage GDM with a healthy diet and exercise. A doctor can also prescribe medication. GDM generally goes away after a person gives birth. However, some people can go on to develop type 2 diabetes.  A person should speak with a doctor if they notice any unusual symptoms during pregnancy.
