Pregnancy Morning Sickness

Morning sickness occurs in over 50 percent of women who become pregnant. Management of morning sickness can be accomplished in different ways such as dietary measures, acupressure, chiropractic care and rest. A visit to the doctor is only necessary when there is excessive vomiting. The use of medications is not recommended during pregnancy.

Morning sickness is not fun and is uncomfortable and annoying, but it is usually the mark of a healthy pregnancy.

Strangely enough, despite its name, morning sickness does not happen only in the morning. For some women, the symptoms can last all day.

The cause of morning sickness may be attributed to an increase in estrogen levels, low blood sugar counts, and an enhanced awareness to some odors from food.

An empty stomach can worsen the feelings of nausea. The stomach produces acids, if there is not food in the stomach, the acids have nothing to digest but an empty stomach lining. This can contribute to feeling nauseas.

Eating Bananas may be helpful as they are full of potassium which can help with nausea.

Also, being physically active with exercise has been found to improve symptoms in women who experience nausea during pregnancy.

It also doesn't hurt to keep your mind busy to help distract you from the nausea. Reading, writing, TV, games and a nature walk can help to keep you from focusing on your upset stomach.

Chiropractic spinal adjustments normalize nerve flow to all of the body's organs and systems, including the digestive system and hormonal system.  This is one of the possible reasons the chiropractor may be of help with morning sickness.
