Dear Fellow Chiropractors:

Having driven my car for many years up and down the southern part of the Garden State parkway, I am very familiar with the animal species known as deer.  The deer line up along the shoulder of the road feeding on the grass.   As your car speeds by them in the evening, the car headlights catch the deer in the face and blind the hell out of them.  Thus, the expression "looking like a deer caught in the headlights."   We use that expression to explain a complete and utter lack of understanding or comprehension.

It is very important for us, as chiropractors to be able to recognize the "deer caught in the headlights look."   It is very easy to get caught up explaining chiropractic during an initial consultation and report of findings visit.  Sadly, the attention span of a new practice  member is sort of like a deer looking up into the glare of an on-coming car.  After 5 minutes, you could very well lose them, to the point of not understanding anything or even resenting the fact that you are boring them.

After 16 or so years of doing consultations, I have it down to a brief science.  I can tell within a minute or so, to whether keep talking or shut-up.   I find it is much better to break up the report into bits and pieces rather than to keep on blabbing.  But, the key factor is being able to recognize the blinded deer look.    My 24 visit report of findings helps eliminate the blinded deer client.  But even with the report broken up that many times, blinded deer can still occur.   As, Kenny Rogers sang, "know when to fold them"  and adapt your consult and report to the person you are dealing with.

WCA Report:   HR2560 continues to gather support within the profession and just as important, throughout congress.  This bill will redefine the chiropractic profession, protecting our future and ensuring our livelihood.   This bill has the support of the majority of chiropractors in the US.  Some in our profession would have you believe that HR2560 is evil, because we will lose a dollar or two per billed office visit to Medicare (only).  They seem to forget that the bill will allow us to bill for an exam and reexam, which we can't do now, plus it protects Chiropractic.  It is well worth the dollar or two per visit to have a strong and united profession, protecting each of our rights to practice chiropractic in the form ( tonal, mechanical or wellness) we choose too.

My Book:

The book,  The Working Chiropractor's 4-Part Course, Build a Booming Practice in 24 Easy Steps, is actually a step by step course on patient education and practice marketing.  Most of the marketing programs are designed for internal referrals and they require almost no expense to put into motion.  There are also external marketing programs that can be implemented for little or no money.  All are ethical and practical, based on education and knowledge, NO SELLING.

The Working Chiropractor's 4-Part Course, Build a Booming Practice in 24 Easy Steps was reviewed in the January 2003 issue of the Chiropractic Journal and is featured as the main interview on the January 2003 ON PURPOSE philosophy CD from the Chiropractic Leadership Alliance.

Over my past 15 years in practice, I have purchased many "courses" form many different experts in our profession for hundreds of dollars and most have collected dust.  I honestly feel that this easy and fun to read "book" can and will help any chiropractor who reads it.

Included in the book fee is also a monthly e-mail newsletter with philosophy, practice tips and politics.

The book is priced at $59.00 plus shipping and handling.  Mastercard and Visa excepted as well as personal check.

You may call my office at 609-266-4749 to order.  Eastern Time.

Thank you for your interest.
