Welcome  New Doctors!

Welcome to this weeks edition of Doctor's Opinion.  If you are receiving this newsletter it is because I have either personally talked to you or contacted you through my work as a WCA Board of Governor or as an Ambassador to the Chiropractic Leadership Alliance.  I would like to take a moment to thank you for being a principled, subluxation-based chiropractor.  It is through the efforts of chiropractors like you that our profession will flourish as the number one healthcare choice in the entire world.  Thank you for giving back to our profession.

Dear Doctors of Chiropractic:

Never underestimate the power of the mind.  Psychologically speaking the practice of chiropractic is one big mind game.  One can run their office with well planned procedures, set in stone systems and a well disciplined regimen, but if your attitude is not right, the whole ball of wax can sink right before your eyes.

The same goes for your staff. I am not talking about their desire to work for you or do a good job, But I am talking about their personal mood or attitude on any given day.  If they are not on the same page as you mentally, you can kiss the record setting patient visit week goodbye.

So, what do you do to keep yours and everybody else's attitudes on target or to borrow a phrase, "On Purpose" ?  Staff meetings is the key.  I know some of you are probably saying, "yeah Jay, where have you been?"  But a lot of us out their do not have meetings enough or we do not make the most out of the ones we have.
.
Plan your staff meeting with the obvious things like office procedures, stats and other pertinent issues.  But, do not leave out the attitude and mood stuff.   This is your time to be Anthony Robbins.  Read to your staff a paragraph or two from your favorite philosophy book, chiropractic or otherwise.  Go over an exciting case report, listen to a short segment on one of the "On Purpose" tapes.  Show parts of a chiropractic video.  I recently purchased a chiropractor's video of the doctor actually adjusting in a very high volume practice.  My staff and I watch it, critique the chiropractor of things we would like to do and things we would not.  Each meeting, try and get yourself and your staff excited about what you both do for a living.  And never underestimate the power of the pre-game warm-up.  A short 5 minute staff chat before each adjusting day or shift can work wonders with the mood for the day and in turn your office's productivity.

Announcements:

MY BOOK:  For those of you who did not know, I finished writing my book on patient education and internal marketing for the chiropractor.  The actual published, printed book should be in my hand by the end of December.  The Book is titled How to Build a Booming Practice in 24 Easy steps.  It is 212 pages of patient education procedures and marketing techniques that cost little or no money.  The book is peppered with just enough philosophy to make it motivational too.  I was interviewed for the upcoming January "On Purpose" philosophy tape about the book, so that is my favorite reason for you to subscribe to that service if you have not already.  Dr. Terry Rondberg will be writing an article on the book in a future issue of the Journal.  You can also look for my ad in the Journal as well.  Who would have thought, me an author?

IRELAND:  Most of you know that I was in Ireland to speak in front of and to the Chiropractic Association of Ireland.  My speaking engagement there led to a new business venture.  I will be heading to Ireland in January to work with Dr. Lawrence Woods.  I will be there for most of the year.  I will be practicing in Dublin in Dr. Wood's office and I hope to participate with the Irish Association while I am there.  My two offices in New Jersey will stay open and will have my two favorite chiropractors, Dr. Skip Lytle and Dr. John Fresh running things.  I will be popping back and forth.  Why am I doing this?  Practicing in Ireland right now is like practicing in chiropractic's hey day of the 1930's.  As Pat Gentempo says "it is the wild, wild west."  It was just to exciting to pass up.

WCA REPORT:  The World Chiropractic Alliance continues to develop very important position papers on every subject that matters to the practicing chiropractor.  The position papers are not only helpful in defending chiropractic, whether it is from the media or a personal lawsuit, but they can be used in your private practice everyday.  I personally give all of my practice members the WCA position paper on children and I have used the WCA paper on strokes more times than I can count.  Go to the WCA website and check them all out.

The BJ Palmer stamp project is in full swing.  If all goes according to plan, in a few years or hopefully sooner we will have our very own US government postage stamp honoring the developer of chiropractic.  Keep having your patients mail the postcards in.  If you do not have anymore, you can request them from the WCA website.

The WCA has been really kicking gluteus lately.  We are on the United Nations  NGO Health Committee, we have WCA board members on the VA committee and the Whitehouse committee on Complimentary medicine.  The only research Journal on Vertebral Subluxation is edited by a WCA board member.  Our Washington lobbyist is one of the most active and recognized in the capital, and we have board members on almost every national chiropractic organization's board in the World.  Soon there will be three in Ireland.  All of this in just a couple of years.  It is amazing.  If you haven't joined yet, please do so.  Support an organization that supports chiropractic.  For literally less than a dollar a day, your money actually works for chiropractic in the WCA.

WCA Interim meeting will take place at the Parker Extravaganza in January in Las Vegas.  Parker is the biggest chiropractic seminar/convention of the year.  They are expecting upwards of 8000 chiropractors.  If you are attending and you are not a WCA member, please stop in and check out the meeting to see for yourself all of the great things that are happening.  Also, check out the WCA booth.

That's all I have for this month.  Please e-mail me with any comments or suggestions.
