My Short Opinion

To have pain or not to have pain, that is the question.   Most people who walk into a chiropractor's office for the first time, usually have some sort of ailment that they would like to have addressed.   Somewhere along the line, they have heard that chiropractic was good for treating whatever ails them.  The ailment could be anything from a neck or back pain to many other conditions like asthma, ear infections, fibromyalgia or even cancer.  Once the person is in our office, it is the doctor's responsibility to share the philosophy of chiropractic.

The philosophy being that chiropractic is not a treatment for disease or symptoms.  Chiropractors only care for one condition, regardless of what symptoms a person may have.  That condition is a Vertebral Subluxation.  Our goal is to correct the alignment of the spine, by adjusting subluxations.  Subluxations are an abnormal condition that exists normally.  Meaning, everybody that has a spine has subluxations, but not everybody with subluxations has symptoms.  So, do you wait for symptoms or are you pro-active in your health care?   Symptoms are usually the last sign that you are sick.  Disease takes time to build in the body.  The major premise of chiropractic care is that a healthy spine promotes a healthy life.   Spinal adjustments remove nerve interference allowing the innate healing power of the body to function the way it was intended to.   One does not need to have a symptom for chiropractic to help.  Chiropractic's greatest virtue is it's ability to keep people healthy.

Yes, disease, conditions and symptoms clear up under chiropractic care , but that is not our intention.  It is our by-product.  Improving nerve flow allows the brain to communicate with the body at 100% of it's capability, thus allowing the body to express itself with healing and health.
Should you leave your family at home just because they do not have symptoms or should you allow them the same chance to have the full expression of life that chiropractic care offers you?

St. Patrick's Day Report:  For those of you in the States, I say Nah, Nah, Nah, I am in Dublin, Ireland.   This holiday is not a day, but a 4 day event.  It started on Friday and goes through Monday.  Fairs, carnivals, concerts and exhibitions.  It is huge here.  Saturday night was a big fireworks display on the Quay.   The quay is what would be called a Canal in the states.  A barge sails up and down the canal shooting off fireworks.  It was a  sight to be seen.   There had to hundreds of thousands of people there.  And guess what?  I didn't see anyone drinking.  The same goes for the carnivals.  It was just pure family fun.  Now that doesn't mean the pubs were not full until all hours of the night, I am sure they were.  But it was nice to see such a family orientated atmosphere.  In Atlantic City at our parade and after, it is all about drinking.  Maybe we can take a hint from Dublin.  The St. Patrick's Day Parade was huge.  Now I have an Idea of what the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in NY is like.   There were so many people, it was unbelieveable.  By the time I got there, the crowd was 20 people deep.  You couldn't see anything.  I figured out where the parade started, so I went to the beginning where all the bands and floats were held up.  I was able to walk right through them and get a good look.  I then walked the short walk home and I am watching it on TV as I write this.  Just like an American.  Everything on the television.  At least I can see the parade and I was actually there for an hour.  I even took pictures.  So, to cap it off, Saint Patrick's Day is a celebration of Ireland's national holiday and it is done in a very big way in Dublin.  It was an experience I won't soon forget.

Norway Report:   In the pub last night I met 4 great people from Norway.  They were here celebrating the holiday.  I only stopped in for one pint and ended up staying out most of the night and having a great dinner with them.  They made my St. Patrick's day, a fun one.  Hello to Odd Holberg and Sigurd Kristoffersen.  They have been added to this e-mail list, which now extends to Norway.

Health Tip Of The Month:   If you want to lose weight, try eating 5 small meals a day as opposed to two or three big ones.   The premise is that if you only eat enough calories to last you until your next meal, you will burn all of the calories as energy and they will not be stored as fat.
This is what bodybuilders have been doing for 30yrs.

Virus Report:  Sorry about the virus hoax.  Here is more information for you.
Dear Dr. J.   Please send out a message immediately retracting your virus warning. I would have replied all to your list but I didn't want to presume.  Don't feel dumb. They did this last year with another file and we all fell for it at one of my client's offices.

Here is the link to help repair any damage:  Symantec Security Response - Jdbgmgr.exe file hoax

This is a hoax that, like the SULFNBK.EXE Warning hoax
, tries to persuade you to delete a legitimate Windows file from your computer. Jdbgmgr.exe is the file to which the hoax refers, and it is the Microsoft Debugger Registrar for Java. The Jdbgmgr.exe file may be installed when you install Windows.

Movie Reviews:  Punch Drunk Love with Adam Sandler.  Boy, this was a wacky movie.  This was another critically acclaimed film which was driving me crazy watching it.  Thankfully, the last 15 minutes pulled it all together and made the movie, in hindsight, watchable.  While I was in the theater, I didn't like the movie.  Once it ended, I said, "ok, that wasn't bad."  It's all about the ending.  Daredevil.  This was the best superhero movie I have ever saw.  Out of all of them.   To give you an idea, I really liked Spider-man, Batman, Superman, the X-Men, Blade.  This was better.  Daredevil is a darker, heavier, sexier movie than the Batman movies and yet it did not lose it's comic book appeal.

PUB Report:  McCluskey's in Donnybrook.  This pub is a PUBLIC HOUSE.   It is like going over to someone's home and having a pint.  Carpeted, nice furniture (dark wood, upholstered couches and chairs to match the carpeting), well decorated.  It is the best kept secret in Dublin.  A great place to watch the rugby games.  You can actually get a seat.  The people are very friendly.  It has it's regulars.  The Irish stew and the Vegetable soup are really good.  And they actually pour a good pint of Guinness.  Plus, the pint price is pretty good for Dublin.  3.50 a pint.

Rugby Report:  Ireland is undefeated (4-0) in the 6 Nations Cup.  So, is England.  Two weeks to go.  I am a little nervous about next week, though.  Ireland plays Wales.  Wales haven't won a game.  In American Football, that is the type of team you have to watch out for.

Church Of The Month:  I hope this is not sacrilegious, giving a church review.  I have the opportunity to visit and attend some very old churches.  The Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Donnybrook is a beautiful church.  The first church was built on the same land in the late 1700's.  This version was built in the mid 1800's.   Incredible alter.  It looks like it was carved out of marble.  The cathedral looked like many of the churches in Italy.  Beautiful.  The priests gave mass to well over 500 people and the church still wasn't full to capacity.  Very big inside.   This is the church I have been attending since I have been here.  I am going to start visiting other churches so that I can experience all of the various architectures and local history.

That is all for this month.
