Dear Practice Members:
I made it. I have been in Ireland one week and oh, what a week it's been. The fight over wasn't too hot. The plane was delayed due to a warning light in the cockpit saying that there was mechanical trouble. If any of you know my mindset about flying, you know that statement was a cause for stress. Thankfully the pilot didn't want to leave until the problem was corrected. We have a saying in chiropractic, "do not treat the symptom , correct the cause." Well, I did not want anybody taking a piece of black tape and covering-up that warning light, I wanted the problem fixed. They did it, but I had to sit in the airport an extra 3 hours while they did. The flight itself was good except for about a half hour. I now call it the "30 minutes of crippling fear." I woke up to very bad turbulence. The plane was shaking and dropping and I was praying and, well, praying. Then the plane dropped, like it felt to be about 5 feet. Which scared the @#$%* out of me. The topper though was the women behind me who screamed as it happened. I thought I was done for. But the wind stopped and everything else was A.O.K.
So, now I have been in Ireland a week. I can honestly tell you that it has been chiropractic 24/7. I have been in the office every day, seven straight days, I have been at screenings and meetings. My roommate is a chiropractor in the office, so we wake up and talk chiropractic, I come home and talk chiropractic. It has been a very focused week. I did manage to get into a pub one night. I'll fill you in on that in my new "Pub Report".
My Short Opinion: I can't write a newsletter without saying something about chiropractic health. In my short week here, I noticed a specific trend. Wellness care is paramount. Every single person is on a routine of wellness chiropractic care. They may have aches and pains, but they do not mention them. I asked a few of the practice members why is it that nobody complains about symptoms here? The answer I received was that chiropractic spinal adjustments were not meant to alleviate a symptom or make us "feel'' better, the only thing they are meant to do is correct spinal nerve flow, which allows the body to function better, increase performance and maintain health. If a symptom happens to go away, all the better. But our body is better off without nerve pressure than it is with it. I was like, wow. That is what chiropractic is all about. I am teaching a healthclass here in the office Tuesday night. They have almost thirty people scheduled for it. I wonder what I can tell them, with an answer like that. Speaking of healthclasses, if you haven't been to ours, please schedule with Donna and Elysa. Next month the Irish practice members will be joining our e-mail newsletter. We will truly be international.
E-mail Address: It's the same. Please use jzimmerman@plexi.com or just reply to this e-mail. Please do not put any other address for me in you address book. Thank you.
Health Tip Of The Month: Buy an Umbrella. They keep the rain off of you. Very important to be dry.
Fishing Report: Who has time to fish?
Pub Report: I went to one of the oldest pubs in Dublin. Toners on Baggot Street. All old wood, and old photographs. The Guinness is supposed to the freshest in Ireland, because they go through so much of it, it is never there long. They have old, wooden cubicles, where you can sit in privacy. They are like tiny little rooms. It turns out that the rooms, in the old days were for the women, as they were not allowed in the pub. The place was small and packed. For you younger readers or older ones with memories (like me), picture a Saturday night in Maloney's in Margate.
Nicotine Anonymous: A great support group for those of you who are having difficulty quitting smoking or who do not want to start again. I know from some of our practice members that this group really helps. They meet in Pleasantville on Monday evenings. Call 609-926-0703
Patient Of The Year: I am glad that I didn't have to pick. They were all incredible. I congratulate you all. The winners this year are Betty Mastrangelo and Ian Keogh. In my mind, you were all winners. Runner-ups, Beth Bariss, Ellenmae Serviss, Marybeth Crispell, Katie Stoto and Dennis Lupton will all receive a free chiropractic adjustment for their great efforts.
Movie Review: I haven't seen any in Ireland, yet. But they have a great program here. you can have about $12.00 automatically debited from your bank account or charged to you credit card and you can go the movies as many times as you want to. Unlimited movies at a fixed fee. Pretty cool. Rent the Time Machine, it had bad reviews, but it was a good movie that actually required thought. K-19 The Widow Maker was also good. Bad Company Chris Rock and Anthony Hopkins was also good. Big Fat Liar was a good family movie. I guess you can tell what my wife and I did on New Years.
Okay, that is all for this month. If anybody needs to talk to me about anything, just reply back and I will do my best to get back you. Also, anything personal about you or your chiropractic care is kept personal.
Talk to you soon,
Dr. J.Z
