Dear Practice Members:

My wife told me a story the other day that she had found quite surprising.   On Wednesday evenings my wife Anne takes a photography class at ACCC.  Her dark room partner is a pharmacist.  You might think that a chiropractor's wife and a pharmacist might not get along to well, you know, because of the drug thing and all.  The pharmacist, who happens to be a women, was complaining to my wife that she had been suffering with a very sore leg.   The pain had been annoying to her for over a week.  My wife made a comment pertaining to the pharmacist's knowledge of medications and how she should know exactly what to take to cover up the pain.  To my wife's surprise, the pharmacist told her that she refuses to take any medication what-so-ever for anything.  She even refuses to take a simple aspirin.

The pharmacist, being in the drug business, told my wife that drugs and medications cause more problems then anyone actually realizes and the only time she would ever take a medication is if she was really sick or dying.  It turned out that my wife and the pharmacist had a lot in common. My wife, due to being married to me, is well aware of all the statistics of drug related illness and death.

The very sad point that I want to make about this story, is that the average person is not aware of how dangerous drugs or medications can be.  A pharmacist and a chiropractor's wife may have the inside scoop on the latest drug research and statistics, but not the average person.  That is why it is so important for you to be informed on health and current medical events.  In our office we try to teach you as much a possible about the dangers of unnecessary medications.  Our articles of the week and our healthcare classes thoroughly discuss any new information that we may find.  Medications serve a purpose, they save lives when a body cannot heal itself, they support a failed system in the body, like a shutdown thyroid or pancreas. Taking drugs and medications simply for symptom relief is asking for trouble down the line.

If one takes an active part in healthcare, then the need for any medication is lessened.  Eat right, take vitamins, get enough rest, exercise, be positive and by all means, continue to make sure your nervous system is working properly.  The proper flow of nerve impulses is one of the most important things you can do to safeguard the health of yourself and of your family.  Chiropractic adjustments improve the flow of your nervous system and help your body function at its highest potential.

Special Announcements:

Weight Watchers Here We Come:  For those of you interested in a sensible weight loss program that actually works and is completely safe, our office is sponsoring memberships to Weight Watchers.  A Weight Watchers prescription signed by one of our doctors will waive the initial membership fee.  Lori Giglio is the Weight Watchers Counselor in Brigantine.  She has taken over the weekly classes and she is very good.  If you are interested ask us for more information.

Health Update with Robin Stoloff:  On Wednesday, November 13th, I will be filming Health Update with Robin Stoloff on NBC 40.  Mrs. Stoloff will be interviewing me concerning the beneficial effect chiropractic care has on the immune system and overall health.  The update will air sometime this winter.

Check Out The New Digs:  The Brigantine office makeover is complete (almost). The wall murals are painted, the diagnostic equipment is installed and new office furniture has been delivered.  The place looks really good.  All we are waiting for is the new fish tank to be brought over.  Our murals were painted by Christine Roche of Flutter By C.  She did a great job in both offices.  We have her business cards for those interested.

Patient Of The Year Contest:  The contest is in full swing.  Pick up your contest form from the front desk.  All you have to do is write a short essay on how chiropractic has benefited your health and life.  You can win three months free chiropractic care and a fifty dollar gift certificate to your favorite restaurant.  Plus, your name will live for eternity on our perpetual Patient of the Year Plaque.

Ireland Report

Well, it's just about final.  If you did not read last months e-mail newsletter, I broke the news on how I was going to go Dublin, Ireland to open up an additional chiropractic office.  I mentioned I would be going in partnership with an Irish chiropractor.  The plans have really firmed up in the last month.  It looks like I will be leaving in the beginning of the year to start up the practice.  The best I can tell now is that I will initially be gone for a few months.  Once the practice is up and running, I will be be-bopping back and forth, here and there.

Dr. Skip and Dr. John will continue to do their very best while I am away.  For those of you who prefer to be adjusted by me only (thankfully there is not that many of you), I would like to make sure I see you in the next eight weeks, so that I can very carefully demonstrate, observe and critique how I adjust you with Dr. Skip and Dr. John, so that you can choose one of them to be in charge of your care when I am not in the office.

In December, I will be adjusting on a limited basis to see how things go, so that we can have a sort of trial run.  The cool thing is that if any of you are in Dublin for vacation, you can stop in for an adjustment, right Bob?

Movie Reviews:  Four Feathers with Heath Ledger.  This was confusing, because in retrospect the story was a good one, but the movie stunk.  How can that be?  The story had all the right elements to make an exciting movie, but it did not happen.  Red Dragon, the prequel to Hannibal Lector was a very good movie.  It wasn't horribly scary like the first one, it was different and very good.  Hart's War.  Bruce Willis as an American POW during World War II.  This movie was really good.  It was actually a court room drama.  You'll like it.  Tim Allen starred in Joe Somebody.  I enjoyed this movie.  A good flick for the entire family.  A funny movie with a message, might doesn't always make right.   I also saw a Cameron Diaz movie also starring Christina Applegate from Married with Children.  It was funny.  I wish I could remember the name of it.  Not for the kids, but a funny adult romantic comedy.

Fishing Report:  Dr. Skip and I finally made it out on our overnight Tuna Fishing trip in the Hudson Canyon.  We caught 7 long fin tuna, upwards of 90lbs and 5 big bull Mahi Mahi.  Go to www.canyonrunner.com for the complete report.  We also fished in the Absecon Bay Sportsmen Centers " Do it all Night" Striper tourney.  We caught two slot fish, with one weighing 8.5lbs.

Boardwalk Bullies Report:  The second season of professional hockey is underway and we are once again the team's official chiropractors.  The Bullies started out with a bang this year and seem to heading towards another great season.  Dollar for dollar, possibly the best entertainment in Atlantic City.  Check it out.

That's all for this month.  If you have any questions, concerns or comments please do not hesitate to e-mail back.  Thank you for being a part of our practice.

See you in the office,

Dr. J.Z.
