Dear Practice Members:
I recently attended a chiropractic philosophy seminar where I heard a speaker say something that really struck a cord with me. The sentence was, "chiropractic care is not about your back, it is about your life." Wow. A couple of hours later on the drive home, I kept thinking about that sentence and my response was once again....wow. Never was a statement so true, yet so not understood. To pigeon hole chiropractic in a small box labeled "Back Pain Therapy" or "Headache Relief" or "Neckache Reliever" is almost a crime against humanity. The reason I was attending a chiropractic philosophy seminar is that of the three things that make up chiropractic, The Science, The Art and The Philosophy, the philosophy is the most important aspect what we do and is also what is most lost to our practice members.
The entirety of our existence is based on the brain's ability to communicate with all of our body parts and body systems. If there is an interference in this communication, the brain cannot effectively control and co-ordinate body function. When there is a loss of body function, no matter how small, the body loses some degree of health and performance. What is the chiropractic connection you ask? The brain communicates with all body functions through the spinal cord and spinal nerves. Slight misalignments in vertebral alignment, called subluxations, interfere with the brains ability to communicate with body function, thus interfering with health and more importantly life.
Chiropractic care on a regular basis adds years to your life and life to your years. It is not about waiting for symptoms to arrive or for that matter even waiting for symptoms to go away. It's about maintaining nerve flow, staying on-top of health, being pro-active and keeping your body working the way nature intended it to. The day we are born we start to grow, then one day it starts to go the other way. The philosophy of chiropractic care is that we can make the other way a lot easier by improving function and enhancing performance on a daily basis. Chiropractic care is like a vitamin, you just take it because you know it is good for you. Chiropractic care is not about your back, it is about your life.
Chiropractic Care Plan: Wellness Care = 1 X Per week for Opitmal Health, Life and Performance.
Maintenance Care = 1 X Per Month for de-stressing the nerves, balancing musculature and preventing arthritic changes.
Who Gets The Care: Everyone!! Your spouse, children, family, friends and co-workers all have brains that communicate with bodyparts through their spine. The
principle and philosophy is the same for everyone, it does not change.
Office Happenings:
Have a Heart Week: February 14-20th. We will be consulting, examining and adjusting any of your family members, friends or co-workers that you care about (or even ones you don't!) absolutely free. This is our way of bringing the health benefits of chiropractic care to your loved ones. One condition, no walk ins. You must schedule an appointment for your friends or family due to the nature of the exam ( consultation & computer spinal scans). Also, the offer is for people who have not been to our practice before. This is a great opportunity to get your kids into our office or family members who might be skeptical of what chiropractors do or friends or family who might be too "tough" to go to a doctor. Schedule early, as this week typically fills up.
PATIENT OF THE YEAR CONTEST: It is that time of the year again. 2004 has come to an end and now it is time for our annual PATIENT OF THE YEAR CONTEST!!!
Our front desk will have forms for you to write a short essay on chiropractic. All essays will be sent to an Independent Chiropractic Judge somewhere in Toledo, Ohio. The two winners will receive 3 months free chiropractic care and a $50.00 gift certificate + their name on our plaque for all the world to see, not to mention a nifty press release in the newspaper.
Here is what should be in the essay: 1. An explanation of chiropractic science and philosophy 2. How chiropractic has impacted your life, health and that of your family.
Baby Report: Alexandra is 4 months old now and about 17 pounds or just over 1 stone for my Irish readers. Alex had her first cold this weekend. Runny nose and fever. I stuck with the chiropractic philosophy and checked her spine numerous times. She woke up on Sunday, laughing, cooing and having a great time. Mom and Dad weren't doing to well. Even with all the faith we have in the body's powers to heal itself, it is tough to watch your little girl suffer. But, we managed to make it through, Alex did much better than we did!!
Bullies Report: As you are probably aware of the Bullies will be no more after this season. It is a shame. It seems our area can't really support an athletic team, even if they are a good one like the Bullies. Do we blame parking? How about prices? Apathy? I don't know. Anyway, There are now two chiropractors looking for a Pro- sports team to take care of.
Joke Of The Month:
Two guys were out joy riding when the driver ran a red light. His friend complained, and the driver said "Don`t worry, that's the way my brother drives."
Later the driver ran another red light and again his friend complained, and again the driver distinctly replied "Don't worry! that`s the way my brother drives!"
A few miles down the road the driver comes to a green light and comes to a complete stop. His friend looked over in utter dismay and screamed "What are you doing, the light is green?!"
The driver said, "Yeah, but my brother might be coming the other way."
Movie Reviews: King Arthur was a very good movie, it must have got lost in the shuffle. Worth a watch. The Terminal with Tom Hanks was a great movie, this one definitely got lost in the shuffle. I-Robot with Will Smith was just as enjoyable. The special effects were so cool, I heard they are going to make this movie for IMAX. Watched Shrek 2, this cartoon movie trancends age groups. Very funny!! I enjoyed Troy, my wife thought it was a waste of time. I liked it because the whole movie was cool sword fighting and not much else. Friday Night Lights was very good football movie. It was a dark movie, that didn't become inspirational until the end. For you country music fans, Tim McGraw has a good part in it. Out of character though. Good movie.
Question of The Month: I am trying to get an idea on how many people are reading my newsletter. I send out to over 500 addresses. Please hit reply and send, no need to write anything. This should give me a good average.
Ok, that is all for this month. Any questions comments or concerns please feel free to e-mail me. Stay Healthy!!
