Dear Practice Members:

Sorry I missed December's Newsletter.   Being home for the holidays and catching up in the office the last 2 1/2 months has kept me busy, which is not really any excuse for neglecting you.  This month I would like to take a paragraph or two to write about the immune system.   The immune system is the body's defense against germs, bacteria, viruses and disease.  For the body to function at 100 % and resist disease, the immune system must work at full throttle.  Antibodies and all of the other vital chemicals responsible for immune system health must be made in the proper balance.

The chiropractic connection to immune system health is that the immune system is controlled and regulated by the nervous system.   For the immune system to perform at its best, the nervous system has to be working at its best.   When the spinal bones are subluxated, disrupted nerve impulses interfere with communication to the immune system organs and glands, this decreases the performance and balance of vital immune body chemistry, decreasing and lowering resistance to disease.  Chiropractic spinal adjustments have been shown to increase resistance enzymes, increase white blood cell production, increase T-Cells and increase the rate of DNA repair.  All important aspects to being healthy and fighting disease.

It is extremely important that you understand this relationship between chiropractic and health.  If you use chiropractic as part of a total health program, not just for aches and pain, your body will be healthier and your life will be the best it can be.

How to Make a Change for the Better:

I found this list on Mercola.com.   I still haven't figured out what it means or how to use it or to even have it make sense.  Maybe you can.

Do you feel that your job, a relationship or your lifestyle is no longer satisfying? Do you feel like you know you need to make a change, but you don’t know where to start?

Here are some tips to get your feet back on the right track:

  • Ask yourself, “What’s the question?”            My thoughts:    Huh?
  • Focus on the present                                                           As opposed to the past or future?
  • Play it forward                                                                    What?
  • Be your neighbor                                                                 What?
  • Be specific                                                                           About What?
  • Do what works                                                                    What works?
  • Examine assumptions                                                          Never assume
  • Clarify what really matters                                                  Ok

PUB REVIEW:    Revisit Goodfellows on Rt. 30 in Absecon.   Food was great.   Very hot wings!  The service was good and the beer menu was astounding.  Some of the best microbrews from around the country and a very worldly and varied import selection.  I used to think of this place as sort of a chain, like Fridays, but not again.   They are up on my list now.

Weather Report:   As I write this,we are in the midst of a 3 day snow storm, coupled with well below freezing temperatures.   This makes for horrible conditions.   What is also bad, is that if you happen to slip or fall on the ice, or strain muscles due to snow shoveling, you are at risk for causing vertebral subluxations.   Subluxations are caused by physical, emotional and chemical stress.   Snow and ice fall in the physical stress category.   As soon as the roads clear, call the office for a spinal check-up, don't wait for your regular wellness visit, get in now so we can check your spine.

Movie Review:   Lord of The Rings Number 3 is incredible.  I think it will win an Oscar for best picture.   Haven't been able to get to any other movies due to work, family and weather.   Once I get back to Dublin, I am sure my regular Sunday movie appointment will back on schedule.

Speaking of Dublin:   I will be back in Ireland on the 31st of January.  I am looking forward to seeing my Irish friends again.  On the other side of the coin, I will be missing all of my hometown practice members.  It was nice being home.  I can't believe almost 3 months have gone by.   I will be back home in NJ, Memorial Day weekend for the summer.  Keep in touch by e-mailing me.
