Dear Practice Members:

I was out jogging the other morning when I had this thought flash about how to communicate the wellness aspect and health benefit of regular chiropractic care.  I tried it out on a couple of clients in the office and it worked pretty well.  I am going to try it out on you right now, only you will have to use your imagination because I do not have any charts or models to point at.  Ok, here it goes.

The nervous system, made up of the brain, spinal cord and spinal nerves control the function and health of every organ and system in the body.  What would happen if I took a big pair of scissors and cut the spinal cord in half, right below the brain?  (This is where you answer.)  The answer that I am looking for is that you would die.  The brain impulse is needed to be alive.  By snipping the spinal cord in half, there is no brain impulse what-so-ever.

My next question is, what if you took the scissors and went to where the nerve comes out of the spine and goes directly to the heart and then cut that nerve in half, what would happen to the body?  The body would die because the heart would cease to function without the nerve impulse from the brain.  What do you think would happen to the heart if the nerve was not snipped in half, but was squeezed or irritated a little?  The heart would not work as well as it should and would be susceptible to disease or illness in due time.

That is exactly what happens when a subluxation (misalignment) exists in the spine.  The vertebra puts pressure on the nerve and decreases nerve flow, decreasing function and health overtime.  That is why it is so important to have regular spinal check-ups and adjustments.  How do you know if you have pressure on your nerves?  You won't know until it is to late.  Chiropractic adjustments keep the pressure off of the nerves and helps keep you healthy.  Regular chiropractic care is just as  important a part of your healthcare program as eating right, taking vitamins and getting enough exercise.  It is preventative healthcare.

Fishing Report:  Last week I went out with friends and family for some fluke fishing off of Long Beach Island.  It was a great day.  18 keepers, with most being in the 25" range.  The weakies are running all over the back bay of Brigantine with Blackpoint, Meadow Cut and Betsy's Channel being hot spots.  I heard the weakies are biting in the morning and evening.  Shedder crab is the hot bait, but white bucktails and purple worms are doing just as well.  The Blue fish are also all over the backbay and croakers are showing up in the front.

Chiropractic Quote Of The Month:  "Every man, woman and child regardless of what disease he or she has or doesn't have, needs a good nerve supply.  Without it you haven't a hope in the world of staying healthy." ----Dr. Reggie Gold, 1972

Movie and Video Review:  My wife and I went and saw the movie My Big, Fat Greek Wedding.  It was pretty funny.  This movie is a low budget, independent film that has been playing the whole summer at the Tilton Theaters.  It consistently is in the weekly top twenty money making films of the summer.  To give you perspective, Spider-man and Star Wars are out of the weekly top-twenty.   I rented the movies a Beautiful Mind and Ali.  Beautiful Mind was a good movie.  I won't spoil it for you if you have not seen it.  It is a good surprise movie.  Ali had possibly the worst ending of any movie I have ever seen.  It just sort of ended.  It was watchable up until that point.
